How To Pick Stylish Postpartum Outfits To Charm A C-Section Belly
First, a BIG congrats on your new bundle of joy! Whether you recently had a c-section birth or are planning to have one, you understand the importance of wearing comfortable and stylish postpartum clothes that flatter your c-section belly.
We ALL have different body shapes, so finding stylish postpartum outfits that make you feel your best can be challenging, and Mama, YOU deserve the best! After having a c-section birth, I’ve found seven sure-fire ways to make my c-section belly look and feel amazing.
Below are seven universal tips to help you choose the best postpartum outfits to charm your c-section belly AND make you feel fabulous. Now, let’s get your glow up!
1. Accessorize Like A Pro
Don’t underestimate the power of accessories!
More oversized statement jewelry can remove focus from your stomach and bring it to other body parts.
A qualitative scarf can do an excellent job covering your belly and making you look chic in no time. Invest in a high-quality diaper handbag that can hold everything you need for your baby and you AND will last you for years.
2. Add The Magic Of Layers
Layers are not only fashionable, but they also serve a practical purpose.
A layer of clothing helps you stay warm when nursing. Secondly, layers can add an element of interest to your postpartum outfit.
A cardigan or distressed oversize denim jacket can be layered over leggings or dresses for a different look or added warmth. They can also offer you the coverage you need when nursing in public or when you feel cold.
Moreover, the layering technique helps you hide what you don’t want to reveal. It can help you feel more pulled together and confident in what you are wearing!
3. Choose The Right Undergarments
As a new mom, you deserve to feel confident and comfortable with the proper undergarments!
Look for comfy nursing bras that provide the lift and support you need while keeping you comfortable.
Also, consider getting postpartum panties or shapewear that helps flatten your tummy and smooth out your curves. They can also provide good compression support, making you feel confident and comfortable at home AND when out and about!
4. Consider Clothing Material
After your c-section, you must be comfortable; the proper clothing material can make ALL the difference.
Avoid clothes that are too tight or made of synthetic fabrics, as they can irritate your incision site or cause itching.
Instead, opt for breathable fabrics like cotton and linen that feel soft on your skin, like this super cute v-neck tunic top for summer OR this elegant long-sleeve cable knit sweater for winter.
Loose-fitting tops, dresses, and pants made of stretchy fabric like spandex or elastane can offer you the flexibility and support you need.
5. Don’t Be Afraid Of Prints
Prints can be intimidating, but they’re great at hiding unflattering bulges or bumps.
Postpartum outfits with small prints or patterns can create an optical illusion to disguise some of your postpartum tummy. Plus, print dresses are comfortable and breezy for warm summer days.
I’ve found that polka dots never seem out of style and are one of the most flattering prints to wear! It’s one of my go-to prints for dresses or shirts.
6. Embrace Flowy Dresses
Dresses can be an excellent postpartum option for a c-section belly that are incredibly flowy and loose fit.
They don’t cling to your body and provide airflow, which can be crucial in helping you stay comfortable and fresh.
They are also easy to move in, and you can quickly nurse your baby without removing layers. Choose dresses with an empire waist or loose silhouette to complement your body shape.
7. Get Comfortable In Loose Clothing
The first few weeks post-delivery, your stomach will still be uber-sensitive, and wearing tight clothing can cause pain. So let’s avoid that!
Wearing loose clothing during the first few weeks of motherhood can help relax your pelvic area AND help your C-section belly incision heal correctly.
Choose loose clothing that works for you, like a baggy top, with a breathable tank top underneath (or a nursing tank top if breastfeeding). Remember to be easy on yourself!
8. Invest in a Good Pair of Leggings
I swear I LIVED in leggings during pregnancy and after. These were and still are my saving grace. Leggings make you feel good and are so gentle on a C-section belly!
Full-length and cropped leggings are perfect postpartum staples in numerous styles, colors, and patterns. They are easy to dress up or down and go with most tops, blouses, and outerwear.
Plus, they provide GOOD tummy control-yes, please!
Look for leggings with thick and stretchy fabric that won’t lose shape or become see-through. High-rise leggings with a foldable waistband can provide additional support and comfort, and you can adjust them to your preference.
9. Prioritize Practicality
Accept that now is not the time for complicated clothing.
Practicality should be at the forefront of your choices.
Again, focus on stretchy, breathable fabrics and some that are not prone to wrinkles which gives you one less thing to do, iron!
10. Try High-Waisted Bottoms
High-waisted bottoms are a postpartum game-changer. They smooth out your stomach and help you feel more secure in your outfit. You can pair them with oversized t-shirts, or flowy or fitted tops for a more put-together look.
To Wrap It Up
Postpartum is when your body needs a lot of love and care, and picking the right postpartum outfit is a small way to treat yourself. You can charm a C-section belly with stylish and comfortable outfits that let you feel like your old self.
Choosing flowy tops, accessorizing, adding prints, investing in high-waisted bottoms, and considering your comfort level, are just a few ways to elevate your postpartum style and feel AMAZING in your own skin.
Remember, the most important thing is to be gentle with yourself and enjoy this beautiful journey of motherhood!
