But in our efforts to care for everyone else, we often forget to care for ourselves. Remembering that we NEED rest, relaxation, and inner peace is vital for our mental and physical health. One way to achieve this is through meditation, which has been proven to boost energy levels and improve mood. 5 Tips On How To Relax And Meditate

Here are five simple ways to get started on how to relax and meditate easily:

1. Find A Quiet Space

Meditation requires concentration and focus. Finding a quiet place where you can shut out distractions is essential.

Start by evaluating your options – can you set aside a corner of your room, or do you need to venture outdoors?

Once you’ve chosen a space, set the scene by bringing in calming elements like candles, plants, or a comfortable cushion to sit on. Keep things simple, and don’t overthink your space. Burning incense or listening to a tabletop fountain can make the ambient mood peaceful.

Creating a meditative area that suits your preferences can be a transformative experience, whether in a small corner or an entire room. This dedicated space will help you to unwind and focus, making relaxation MUCH easier to achieve.

2. Focus On Your Breathing

Close your eyes and gently focus on your breath.

Let your mind concentrate on each inhale and exhale; notice how your belly, chest, and lungs expand and contract with each breath.

When meditating, it’s normal to find your mind wandering, so let those thoughts be, acknowledge them, and return your attention to your breath. All you have to do is FOCUS on your breathing and file that in your memory bank. It’s that simple.

Be gentle with yourself, and do not judge how you meditate; REMEMBER, meditation is a process!

3. Follow A Guide

Guided meditation offers a more structured approach.

You can do this through an app or an online video session to guide you through meditation.

Here are some of my favorite tools to use and listen to when I meditate:

Remember, meditation is DIFFERENT for everyone, and what works for one person may not work for another. Keep experimenting and try different forms of guidance until you find what works best for you!

4. Practice Regularly

Make meditation part of your daily routine. Set aside a specific time each day that works for you, whether early in the morning or the evening before bed.

Remember, there’s no “right” way to meditate – what’s most important is finding a sustainable practice.

Whether that means starting small with just a few minutes a day or trying out different apps or guided meditations to help you stay accountable, the key is to find what works for you and stick with it. Meditation regularly helps reduce stress and anxiety, making you more peaceful and relaxed.

5. Use Positive Affirmations

Try to choose a positive affirmation that you can repeat to yourself during meditation or when you feel overwhelmed. Repeat it regularly to yourself, and let it INSTILL a sense of peace and calm within you. Some positive affirmations I love are:

  • “I am worthy, and I trust my journey.”
  • “I am at peace.”
  • “I release my worries.”
  • “I am grateful for my life.”
  • “I deserve an abundant life of wealth and happiness.”

Give it a try and see how much better you feel!

FAQ

How do beginners start meditating?

Start by finding a quiet, comfortable space where you won’t be disturbed. Sit cross-legged on the floor or in a chair with your back straight and your hands resting on your knees. Close your eyes and begin focusing on your breath. Inhale deeply through your nose, and exhale slowly through your mouth. If your mind starts to wander (which it will), gently bring your attention back to your breath. Start with just a few minutes daily, gradually increasing the time as you become more comfortable.

What do you think when meditating?

The beauty of meditating is that there is no right or wrong way to do it! The purpose is to bring awareness to your thoughts and focus on being present at the moment. During meditation, you may find your mind wandering to thoughts on your to-do list, memories from the past, or worries about the future. That’s normal and completely OKAY. The goal is to acknowledge those thoughts without judgment and return your focus to your breath. Focus on BREATHING.

How do you meditate in bed?

To start, find a comfortable position and focus on your breath. Start by inhaling deeply, counting to 5, and exhaling slowly. Notice your thoughts, but try not to engage with them. Instead, visualize a peaceful scene or use a guided meditation app to create a soothing auditory landscape.

Is it ok to lie down when meditating?

It is perfectly okay to lie down and meditate. The most important thing is to find a comfortable position to be present and focused. Experiment with poses and props, such as pillows or blankets, until you find what works best. Remember, there is no wrong way to meditate- it is simply about finding peace and mindfulness in whatever works for you!

How long should you meditate?

The ideal meditation duration varies from person to person. However, starting with shorter sessions, such as a few minutes, is recommended, and gradually increasing the time as you feel comfortable. It’s important to remember that the quality of your meditation practice is more important than the quantity. Meditating for a few minutes daily can positively impact your mental and physical well-being. So, whether it’s a few minutes or an hour, find the length of meditation that suits you best and make it a part of your daily routine.
