But in our efforts to care for everyone else, we often forget to care for ourselves. Remembering that we NEED rest, relaxation, and inner peace is vital for our mental and physical health. One way to achieve this is through meditation, which has been proven to boost energy levels and improve mood. Here are five simple ways to get started on how to relax and meditate easily:

1. Find A Quiet Space

Meditation requires concentration and focus. Finding a quiet place where you can shut out distractions is essential.

Start by evaluating your options – can you set aside a corner of your room, or do you need to venture outdoors?

Once you’ve chosen a space, set the scene by bringing in calming elements like candles, plants, or a comfortable cushion to sit on. Keep things simple, and don’t overthink your space. Burning incense or listening to a tabletop fountain can make the ambient mood peaceful.

Creating a meditative area that suits your preferences can be a transformative experience, whether in a small corner or an entire room. This dedicated space will help you to unwind and focus, making relaxation MUCH easier to achieve.

2. Focus On Your Breathing

Close your eyes and gently focus on your breath.

Let your mind concentrate on each inhale and exhale; notice how your belly, chest, and lungs expand and contract with each breath.

When meditating, it’s normal to find your mind wandering, so let those thoughts be, acknowledge them, and return your attention to your breath. All you have to do is FOCUS on your breathing and file that in your memory bank. It’s that simple.

Be gentle with yourself, and do not judge how you meditate; REMEMBER, meditation is a process!
